Shop: Brass Pineapple

20 May

Yes people, Independent Shop of the Week makes a return… in the form of Brass Pineapple all the way up in Kendal, Cumbria after a lovely weekend spent in The Lake District.

The Urban Dictionary definition… Brass Pineapple: Given name to objects stolen from pubs in retaliation for expensive drinks.

In actuality it’s a cute little shop just off the High Street, started by two designer friends who met at Carlisle University. They make unique upcycled dresses through combining different prints/fabrics/pieces:

Inside the shop they also have unusual accessories and homeware such as lego/domino rings and records that have been melted into bowls!

I instantly fell in love with this polka dot and paisley number, and it was a real bargain down from £20 to £10!

polka dot paisley dressI styled it with a Primark black leather and gold metal belt, black tights and Office chunky leather lace up boots. The boyfriend took  me on a cinema date and told me I looked like “Maid Marion biker style”….. boys eh?! To keep warm I added my Zara leather jacket:

Is my Biker Maid Marion look a hit or a miss?! Let me know in the comments!

I’d love to blog about more Independent Shops so let me know your favourite and I’ll pop down and write a review.

Travels: South Africa

24 Mar

Yes people, I’ve been away on my jollies for the last few weeks. I had the pleasure of visiting Johannesburg, South Africa and Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Here’s a little photobomb of what I got up to in Joburg:

Do these two remind anyone else of Mufasa and Scar from the Lion King?!

Also discovered how large a giraffe actually is!

My Lion Park outfit consisted of:

Neutral t-shirt: Monki

Khaki shorts: River Island

Little tan bag: Primark

Tan ballet pumps: Dune

Beige Cardigan: H&M

Ombre Tortoiseshell Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters

It was a very short trip to South Africa (just the weekend – sad face) and I’d love to go back and visit Cape Town as I’ve heard it’s absolutely spectacular. My family and I jetted to Zanzibar next and you’ll be finding out all about that in my next post so stay tuned!

Have you ever been up close with big cats? I was pretty petrified! Haha.

Has anyone had any memorable trips to Africa? It’s pretty different to our very own LDN to say the least.

Red Jumper: H&M

Kristen High Waisted Jeans – Topshop

Fur Detail Jacket: Motel

Tillie Bag: Mulberry

Brown Riding Style Boots: Lotus Hallmark

What a strange week of weather we’ve had with our April Showers. You look out of the window and it’s a beautiful, bright, sunny morning, thirty minutes later you step outside and pouring with rain! The solution? Stick on a nice big coat, a pair of puddle protecting boots and always carry an umbrella!

What’s your rainy day item of choice?

Monki in LDN!

9 Mar

Yes it’s true! Monki has arrived on Carnaby Street, right next to sister brand Cheap Monday. I paid a visit on it’s opening day and was not let down one bit! The brand is definitely unique, and in store it felt very different to any current retailers in the UK. Originally from Sweden, Monki describe their stores as “walk-in closets filled with treasures! To step into one of them is to step into a part of the Monki World: the strange Forgotten Forest, the bio-hazardous City of Oil and Steel or the magical Sea of Scallops.”

A tad peculiar perhaps? But it seems to make them all the more lovable along with their Monki Monsters (as featured with me below!).

They do some great timeless pieces, I came across several knits which I could see becoming staples in my wardrobe:

Peace Knit (30 euros)

Tropez Cardigan (40 euros)

As well as having some seriously quirky accessories:

Watermelon Bag (20 euros)

Jane Hat (20 euros)

Check out their awesome descriptions which to me sell the product more than the picture: “Don’t be a plain Jane–if you want to stand out, just do it, wear it, be it. Jane brightens the day with a cocky little wink to everything from 80’s new wave to Mary Poppins charm. Soft felt, comes in two sizes. Colour: yummylicious red”

To clarify, online the prices are in Euros, but in the store they are in good old English pounds.

I’ll be featuring some more Monki pieces next week with the return of my Trendwatch Tuesday post so keep check back for more from this exciting brand!

Have you been to Monki yet? Or purchased anything from them before?

Chilling in my Docs

5 Feb

Red Bobble Hat: Primark

Check Scarf: TK Maxx

Grey Mixed Knit Jumper: H&M

Navy Leigh Jeans: Topshop

Parka: H&M

BIG Leather Bag: All Saints

Socks: Primark

Gloves: Mulberry

Boots: Doc Martens from Office

Nails: It’s Time to Rock by Sephora

So here’s a look from Friday before it snowed, it was still freezing cold so I had piled on the layers for a very casual day at work. I’m still breaking in my Doc Martens, which I do love so much. They are incredibly comfy and supportive at the same time! Wearing them with big snuggly socks makes me happy.

I didn’t realize quite how coordinated I was until I got to work and noticed all the red and maroon but think it somehow worked. I’m seriously obsessed with my new(ish) bag from All Saints, which is so huge I can store everything I could every need in it. I’m a big bag lady and proud!

To everyone who’s had some, I hope you enjoyed the snow. I kind of wish I’d done a snowy OOTD but it was just too cold and I had a massive duvet day instead!

Fashion Foie Gras for Coach

24 Nov

On Tuesday night I was lucky enough to attend Emily from Fashion Foie Gras‘ Coach Tote Launch.

Coach - New Bond Street

The bag was created by Emily especially for bloggers and has literally every compartment a girl/blogger could ever need!

Compartments Galore

From a special section for flat shoes…

to a zip out iPad case…

It was the lovely Lauren from Elle Croft who invited me along. We had no idea what to expect seeing as it was in store… but on arrival we realised that this party ticked ALL the boxes…

A Fabulous Crowd - Can you spot me?!

There was also a seriously amazing photobooth which had a WIND MACHINE IN IT!!!

Myself, Lauren and Sarah from Sarah Betty got slightly carried away in the booth:

The party was so much fun, thanks to Emily for having us!

Trendwatch: Shopper-holic

1 Nov

Is it just me or has the shopper taken over the fashion scene? I’m a big bag lover and find the shopper (also sometimes called the ‘tote’) ever so functional whilst being stylish too. At the higher end is the Louis Vuitton Everfull (£500 upwards)… such a timeless piece:

Then we have the classic Longchamp which is casual yet fashion conscious and comes in at a more affordable price (£75 upwards)

The High Street has it’s own range of shopper style bags which I’m loving:

Top Row (L-R) River Island Snake Print Shopper (£45), Mango Knot Handle Shopper (£30) and ASOS Suede And Leather Pocket Shopper (£85)

Bottom Row (L-R) ASOS Leather 70s Shopper (£60), Whistles Dorina Tote Bag (£295), ASOS Colour Block Shopper (£20)

Topshop also has a great range to mention but a few (click on the image for a larger, clearer photo):

The Topshop leather Brogue shoppers are made of the softest leather whilst the Felt are very practical and hardwearing. The shoppers really do make excellent book bags which would be a great excuse for students wanting some retail therapy!

What’s your tote of choice? I’m so torn trying to decide which one to buy, any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
