Nails: Dior at Harrods

4 Apr

Hello Shopaholics!

Those of you who read Vogue’s Beauty Page may have noticed their article on The Illustrated Nail. I had to share this as I thought the haute couture designs were clever yet classic (quite unusual when it comes to nail art which is generally cute or clashy!).

Nail Artist, Sophie Harris-Greenslade, who goes by the name of “The Illustrated Nail” has created the designs from Raf Simons’ Dior Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

I absolutely love the simplicity of the designs which keeps them chic and stylish yet recognisable.

The cost of the appointment is redeemable against the purchase of two Dior products – so you can get your freshly polished fingers on some Dior goodies whether it’s fashion or beauty!

Appointments with Sophie herself are available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Dior at Harrods until April 14. Call 0207 754 0444 to book.

I’ll be making myself an appointment for this chic manicure:

Launch: Margiela at H&M

20 Nov

Last week I stopped by the launch of Margiela at H&M at their Flagship Store on Regent Street.

It was a rather busy event, and they had a queue outside which formed the night before. Entry to purchase Margiela was via coloured wrist bands distributed in the queue.

Inside the store, the display felt like a museum exhibit, only adding to the limited appeal of these items.

In store my personal favourites included a quirky puff sleeve shirt, black jersey dress and suede jacket, but as I’m saving for a Winter Sun holiday, I stayed controlled and simply admired all these beauties. (May be popping back this week to see if there’s anything left and then using the “it’s meant to be” line to convince myself to purchase!

I’d definitely recommend checking out the website, not only for the flawless design experience but also the comfort of browsing in a calmer demeanor than the average Regent Street shopper!

I also enjoyed the “Who bought What” post on The Guardian Fashion Blog from Launch Day.

What’s your favourite piece from the collection? Have you bought any Margiela goodies?

Trendwatch: The Umbrella

24 Apr

Following on from my April showers OOTD, it seems only right to dedicate a post to Umbrellas!

I’ve realised my Primark dark grey brolly just doesn’t make me feel any better about the miserable weather we’re having. However, if I owned the Moschino Cheap and Chic Spots Olivia Umbrella for example… (surely a bargain at seventy five of our Great British Pounds) I’d want any excuse to whip it out!

Or for a cheaper but no less spotty alternative… I could go with the Topshop Clear Spot Frill Umbrella (£15)… what do you think?

Some other brollies I’m absolutely loving….

Fulton Double Canopy Walker Floral Umbrella (£25) – what a lovely surprise on the inside of this quite standard looking black brolly!

Fulton Vintage Butterfly Micro Slim Umbrella (was £18 now £10) – perfect for the handbag and a bargain too!

Cath Kidston Shooting Stars Tiny Umbrella (was £20 now £15) – loving the classic Kidston print

What are your thoughts on the perfect umbrella for these Spring showers? Do you like the prints or the classic black walker? I’d love to know.

OOTD – April Showers

19 Apr

White Blouse: Primark

Red Jumper: H&M

Kristen High Waisted Jeans – Topshop

Fur Detail Jacket: Motel

Tillie Bag: Mulberry

Brown Riding Style Boots: Lotus Hallmark

Nails: Rimmel Lycra Pro in 391 Celebrity Bash

What a strange week of weather we’ve had with our April Showers. You look out of the window and it’s a beautiful, bright, sunny morning, thirty minutes later you step outside and pouring with rain! The solution? Stick on a nice big coat, a pair of puddle protecting boots and always carry an umbrella!

What’s your rainy day item of choice?

Monki in LDN!

9 Mar

Yes it’s true! Monki has arrived on Carnaby Street, right next to sister brand Cheap Monday. I paid a visit on it’s opening day and was not let down one bit! The brand is definitely unique, and in store it felt very different to any current retailers in the UK. Originally from Sweden, Monki describe their stores as “walk-in closets filled with treasures! To step into one of them is to step into a part of the Monki World: the strange Forgotten Forest, the bio-hazardous City of Oil and Steel or the magical Sea of Scallops.”

A tad peculiar perhaps? But it seems to make them all the more lovable along with their Monki Monsters (as featured with me below!).

They do some great timeless pieces, I came across several knits which I could see becoming staples in my wardrobe:

Peace Knit (30 euros)

Tropez Cardigan (40 euros)

As well as having some seriously quirky accessories:

Watermelon Bag (20 euros)

Jane Hat (20 euros)

Check out their awesome descriptions which to me sell the product more than the picture: “Don’t be a plain Jane–if you want to stand out, just do it, wear it, be it. Jane brightens the day with a cocky little wink to everything from 80’s new wave to Mary Poppins charm. Soft felt, comes in two sizes. Colour: yummylicious red”

To clarify, online the prices are in Euros, but in the store they are in good old English pounds.

I’ll be featuring some more Monki pieces next week with the return of my Trendwatch Tuesday post so keep check back for more from this exciting brand!

Have you been to Monki yet? Or purchased anything from them before?

Chilling in my Docs

5 Feb

Red Bobble Hat: Primark

Check Scarf: TK Maxx

Grey Mixed Knit Jumper: H&M

Navy Leigh Jeans: Topshop

Parka: H&M

BIG Leather Bag: All Saints

Socks: Primark

Gloves: Mulberry

Boots: Doc Martens from Office

Nails: It’s Time to Rock by Sephora

So here’s a look from Friday before it snowed, it was still freezing cold so I had piled on the layers for a very casual day at work. I’m still breaking in my Doc Martens, which I do love so much. They are incredibly comfy and supportive at the same time! Wearing them with big snuggly socks makes me happy.

I didn’t realize quite how coordinated I was until I got to work and noticed all the red and maroon but think it somehow worked. I’m seriously obsessed with my new(ish) bag from All Saints, which is so huge I can store everything I could every need in it. I’m a big bag lady and proud!

To everyone who’s had some, I hope you enjoyed the snow. I kind of wish I’d done a snowy OOTD but it was just too cold and I had a massive duvet day instead!

The Versace Countdown

16 Nov

So the Versace for H&M collection is less than 12 hours away… I couldn’t help but notice the guys from H&M putting the final touches in the Regent Street window over the last couple of days:

I couldn’t help but stop and stare, the collection is so striking and luxurious.

My favourite piece from the collection has to be this Leather Necklace (£35) as it’s so unique yet wearable (and affordable!):

There’s the Print Jacket (£69.99) which is calling to the eccentric part of me:

Wow am I loving the hair and make up for this collection… it slightly makes me want to go bleach blonde!

Versace have also taken on the LBD very sucessfully, firstly the babydoll (£79.99) which is H&M-esque:

And the Gold Button Dress (£79.99):

If you just want a hint of Versace you could buy the Print Scarf for a bargainous £24.99:

Last I heard there were 16 people in the queue on Regent Street! I’ll be up at 9am attempting to get on to the website trying to get some of these lovelies.

What pieces from the collection will you be buying?

18 and East – Style it Your Way

14 Nov

It’s taken me a while but I’ve finally got on the maxi bandwagon… it’s all down to the lovely 18 and East who asked me to style up an item from their A/W collection (which I was lucky enough to preview back in August) and I chose their Belted Star Print Maxi and they even featured me on their blog!

I styled up the dress with Topshop lace up heeled boots and a River Island studded belt. The dress has a definite presence so doesn’t need much accessorizing. I also enjoyed wearing it more casually with my Office Victoriana flat black leather boots, H&M chunky tights, H&M oversized slouchy cardigan and a Primark leather and gold chain belt.

I love how versatile yet unique this dress is, additionally it’s timeless rather than trendy.

A huge thank you to 18 and East for the beautiful dress and for featuring me on their blog,

H&M with a Dragon Tattoo

8 Nov

I’ve pretty much spent my entire life looking for the perfect leather jacket but, alas, never quite found the right one…

I feel all my problems may be solved by H&M’s partnering with the new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film. For those of you who haven’t yet read Stieg Larsson’s Millenium Trilogy prepare to be faced with the most sensational heroine literature has ever seen.

The Gothic Lisbeth Salander dons leather in all shapes and forms, favours big black boots and probably doesn’t own a bra.

I am dying to see this edgy collection and hope it truly reflects Salander’s angst and fearlessness.

Here’s a sneak preview:

Trish Summerville designed the 30 piece collection and said: “Salander’s look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armour to shield her from the world. I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result.”

The collection will hit the Colette store in Paris on November 28th and H&M stores on December 14th… I think I need to get my ticket to Paris sorted!
