NOTW: Cute Cupcakes

23 Nov

I’m so excited about my seriously cute Nails of the Week:

To get this look I followed this tutorial from YouTuber CutePolish:

I used the following products (doesn’t the lid of my JolieBox makes a great nail polish tray?!):

Revlon Quick Dry Basecoat

Essie Eternal Optimist (2nd coat)

Models Own Vintage Pink (1st coat)

Topshop Nails One Hot Minute (applied with striping brush)

Rimmel Nail Tip Whitener (applied with dotting tool)

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

Pink stripes, hearts, cupcakes – this is my favourite ever nail art!!! It’s not high fashion but it’s fun and creative. What are your thoughts on nail art?

NOTW: Nude Sparkles

13 Nov

Here are my nails of the week, I love the juxtaposition of three coats of sensible nude with an impulsive sweep of glitter at the end!

The polishes are: Nude Beige by Models Own – this looks very different in the bottle – much more pinky! And Disco Ball by Rimmel:

And the knuckle ring is from the Etsy shop ModernMeetsWhimsy, who do some seriously cute dainty pieces. I’m also loving this Love Me Knot Ring (£12)!

What polish are you wearing this week?

How to: Glamour Waves

9 Nov

I was lucky enough to be invited to the multi-award winning Brooks and Brooks salon for a little pampering session this week and thought I’d share the fabulous evening I had with you all with a how to blog post.

The Salon is on the lovely Sicilian Avenue (nearest tube Holborn), which had such beautiful Christmas lights!

I got to choose from a selection of on trend hair looks including vintage undo, sexy blowout, mussy relaxed updo and beachy waves:

I decided to try something a little bit different and chose the “glamour waves” look as I’ve never had anything like that before…. AND I’d never seen a curling tong like this one either….!

Sophia, my technician, and I had lots of giggles about this… and step one was to spray my roots with Batiste for brown hair for a bit of volume and then blow dry to really smooth out the length of my hair:

Then Sophia wrapped my hair around the tongs in sections and pinned it all up to cool (to prevent the curls from dropping)

Then she unpinned all my curls and I had some amazing ringlets!

I quite liked this girly look, but to make it all a bit sophisticated, she brushed the curls out and with her hairdressers magic made it look like this:

Outfit

Black Velvet Dress (worn as skirt): Primark

Black long sleeve top: ASOS

Studded Tiger Print Cardigan: Topshop

Spike Necklace: Primark

GameBoy iPhone Case: Play.com

I told Sophia that I usually curl my hair with my GHD’s and she said if I curled it all in the same direction and then brushed it out, it would create a similar look. Something I’ll definitely be trying out.

There were some seriously cute face cookies with amazing hairdos too!

I had such a fabulous time at Brooks & Brooks that I booked in to get my natural hair colour spiced up! I’m very excited about this, let me know if you have any suggestions about what kind of look you think I should go for.

Where do you get your hair done? What’s your favourite hair trend for Autumn/Winter 2012? I’d love to know,

Lush Bubbly Bath

14 Mar

Over Christmas I was given some lovely Lush goodies… a limited edition Golden Wonder Bath Bomb, Twilight Bath Bomb and a Christmas edition Bubble Bar… Never having used these before, I was very excited to try out my first bath bomb… I went with Twilight and was not disappointed one bit!

The bath bomb literally exploded once I dropped it in the water and started fizzing away and the bathroom started to smell like a mixture of Lavender and Malt…mmmmm!

After a couple of minutes, lovely sparkly bits appeared too!

I then ran the water for a few more minutes and there were so many bubbles, it was amazing to say the least!

Then it was time to get in and relax, and enjoy the lovely aroma. I was so impressed with these that I bought my Mum some for her birthday in early January and she loved them too.

With Mother’s Day coming up (this Sunday!), I think anything from Lush would make a lovely gift. The great thing is that you can go in and select whatever you like to go in a gift bag or box and can vary it depending on your needs/budget. They are also doing some gift sets, which are good value for money and very pretty indeed:

Mamma Mia (£19.95)

Happy Mother’s Day (£28.95)

What are your favourite Lush products? I can’t wait to try out some more!

It’s time for another party…

10 Mar

Back in November, 17 Cosmetics held a seriously awesome Twitter party to celebrate the launch of their Magnetized Nail Polish. It was such good fun sharing make up tips and our favourite 17 products. This weekend the 17 Twitter Party returns for the launch of Peep Show Mascara… and you’re all invited!

To take part follow @official17 and look out for the hashtag #17cosmetics from 7-8pm on Twitter on Sunday 11th March.

And… every 10 minutes 17 will be giving away a goodie bag crammed full of fabulous 17 products to the best tweeters. Just include the hashtag #17cosmetics with every tweet you send for your chance to win! Make sure you’re following @official17 too so they’re able to send you a direct message if you win.

What are your favourite 17 products? I’m currently loving their Adapt-itude – Adapting Skin Match Foundation which I accidentally bought in Extra Fair but adapts to my skin tone perfectly (and I’d say I’m more of a medium)!

See you on Twitter at 7pm tomorrow!

Twilight

30 Oct

So Halloween is upon us and it’s got a bit spooky…

I’m a bit of a fancy dress fiend and decided to go with a ‘Twilight’ vampire theme, re-styling my Zombie Prom Queen dress from last year:

Lace fingerless gloves – H&M

Black and Gold Ring – Miss Selfridge

Silver Charm Necklace – River Island

Dark Silver Drop Earrings – Warehouse

Nails – Rimmel Lycra Pro in Trend Spotting

This was my face of the night which I used the fabulous VIVO cosmetics to create:

VIVO Lashes in Feather Boa

VIVO Very Berry Lipstick

VIVO Eyeshadows in Purple Passion and Black Sparkle

I also used VIVO Highlighter to create a dewy finish, which I forgot to include in this photo!

You can find VIVO at selected Tesco stores and it’s really quite a bargain with the products ranging from £1.50 to £6.

What are you wearing this Halloween? And have you tried any VIVO products yet?

The biggest ever…

15 Sep

bathroom project?

I’m on a mission to use up my 120+ products. It’s built up over the years and I’ve also collected a few repeats of the same items whilst I was away at uni!

It’s going to be very hard not buying any bathroom products…. has anyone got any tips for a recovering product junkie? Also, if anyone else is doing a bathroom project please let me know so we can discuss our withdrawal symptoms together! 🙂

I’ll keep you updated and let you know if I rediscover any amazing products!

Review: E.L.F. Brushes

18 Aug

E.L.F. were having a 50% off sale quite recently so I decided to try a few more bits from their range since my sucessful E.L.F. haul.

I’ve heard quite a lot about stipple brushes, so thought it was about time I got one so I bought the Studio stipple brush (usually £3.50).

This is quite a fine brush rather than an HD application brush like the MAC or Sigma dual fibre brushes. I have quite a heavy hand so fid this brush really helpful when it comes to applying  strong cheek colours. I’d definitely recommend it for use with cream blush – how I’ve been mainly using it.

Then I decided to get a cheap-ish brush set for my travels:

They are actually incredibly soft and much better quality than I was expecting. The wooden handles are upmarket and I love the simple design.

The complexion brush is very full and great for applying powder. I was equally impressed with the concealer and eyeshadow brushes which are great applicators and could be used in a variety of ways. The brow and eyelash comb are nothing to write home about but do what they’re meant to. The eyeliner brush however does not do its job well at all, the soft bristles mean it’s impossible to get a thin line or maintain control over a liner. So I’m not too sure how exactly I’m going to use this brush!

I’m not sure I’d pay full price (£20) for these but for a tenner, think they are pretty good.

I also bought five nail varnishes (£1.50 each) which I featured in my Accent Nail post. Good news, 7 days in and I’m still chip free!

Did you buy anything in the 50% off sale?

p.s. This is a scheduled post as I’m currently away travelling. I will do my best to reply to comments when I can.

July Favourites

6 Aug

Hello lovely readers!

Apologies for the lack of blogging this week. I’ve been really busy, mainly organising my trip to South East Asia later this month (exciting!) – will post more about that soon.

So here’s a bit of a belated product review day vlog, my July favourites! I did film it in July but only just got round to editing it!

What were your July favourites? Have you tried any of the Herbal Essences products and loved/hated them? I’d love to know, LDNshopaholic xxx

Lovely Dove

21 Jul

Here’s my review of some of Dove’s latest products from the TOWIB event in (HD!) vlog form. I thought it was easiest to talk through and show you my likes and dislikes. Be warned… there is a mass of tangled hair which makes an appearance in this one, as well as my QVC sales person alter ego!

Thanks for watching 🙂
