Travels: South Africa

24 Mar

Yes people, I’ve been away on my jollies for the last few weeks. I had the pleasure of visiting Johannesburg, South Africa and Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Here’s a little photobomb of what I got up to in Joburg:

Do these two remind anyone else of Mufasa and Scar from the Lion King?!

Also discovered how large a giraffe actually is!

My Lion Park outfit consisted of:

Neutral t-shirt: Monki

Khaki shorts: River Island

Little tan bag: Primark

Tan ballet pumps: Dune

Beige Cardigan: H&M

Ombre Tortoiseshell Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters

It was a very short trip to South Africa (just the weekend – sad face) and I’d love to go back and visit Cape Town as I’ve heard it’s absolutely spectacular. My family and I jetted to Zanzibar next and you’ll be finding out all about that in my next post so stay tuned!

Have you ever been up close with big cats? I was pretty petrified! Haha.

Has anyone had any memorable trips to Africa? It’s pretty different to our very own LDN to say the least.

Launch: Margiela at H&M

20 Nov

Last week I stopped by the launch of Margiela at H&M at their Flagship Store on Regent Street.

It was a rather busy event, and they had a queue outside which formed the night before. Entry to purchase Margiela was via coloured wrist bands distributed in the queue.

Inside the store, the display felt like a museum exhibit, only adding to the limited appeal of these items.

In store my personal favourites included a quirky puff sleeve shirt, black jersey dress and suede jacket, but as I’m saving for a Winter Sun holiday, I stayed controlled and simply admired all these beauties. (May be popping back this week to see if there’s anything left and then using the “it’s meant to be” line to convince myself to purchase!

I’d definitely recommend checking out the website, not only for the flawless design experience but also the comfort of browsing in a calmer demeanor than the average Regent Street shopper!

I also enjoyed the “Who bought What” post on The Guardian Fashion Blog from Launch Day.

What’s your favourite piece from the collection? Have you bought any Margiela goodies?

Event: Night at the Museum

31 Oct

So on Friday night I had the pleasure of attending Lates at Natural History Museum. With no idea what to expect, I took the boyfriend along to see what it was all about. Firstly, we stopped off for dinner at the amazing Crémerie Crêperie which appears to be my favourite South Kensington eatery!

Then we hit the museum which is all ceremoniously lit up (not sure whether this is for Halloween or Christmas?):

Inside the famous Diplodocus Central hall was buzzing – there’s a bar and live music throughout the event:

We had a good old browse around the birds section and saw a whole lot of fossils too! Slightly more dated and a bit creepier was the insect area…. not for the faint hearted! And of course there’s the renowned Dinosaur gallery which really is quite incredible:

These sections of the museum were fairly quiet, but their current exhibition Wildlife Photographer of the Year was totally sold out. I’d definitely recommend it, there are some really impressive photos taken by both professionals and joe average (I’m going to try and enter next year!). Here are just a few of my favourites:

Also in attendance was The Campsite, a pop up creative arts area outside the museum with Campervans, caravans and tents. Here you can watch a Wildlife movie in Lionel the white Campervan or tell a Natural History related story in the Archivist van. (Popping up until November 2nd!).

What I Wore (ever so casual):

Grey Woolly Jumper – H&M

Leather Jacket –  Zara

Jeans – Topshop

Tartan Scarf – Car Boot Sale

Red Bobble Hat – Primark

Maroon Converse (not hi tops!) – Office

Grey Textured Shoulder Bag – All Saints

The next Lates at the Natural History Museum (and last of the series) will be taking place on 30th November. If you are looking for an unusual place to go on a date or after work drinks with colleagues/friends, this is ideal! It’s also open throughout the week for a more traditional museum visit, and my favourite festive ice rink opens there on Friday!

Have you been to any good exhibitions lately? I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to museums and galleries, and love them nearly as much as shopping!

White Blouse: Primark

Red Jumper: H&M

Kristen High Waisted Jeans – Topshop

Fur Detail Jacket: Motel

Tillie Bag: Mulberry

Brown Riding Style Boots: Lotus Hallmark

What a strange week of weather we’ve had with our April Showers. You look out of the window and it’s a beautiful, bright, sunny morning, thirty minutes later you step outside and pouring with rain! The solution? Stick on a nice big coat, a pair of puddle protecting boots and always carry an umbrella!

What’s your rainy day item of choice?

Chilling in my Docs

5 Feb

Red Bobble Hat: Primark

Check Scarf: TK Maxx

Grey Mixed Knit Jumper: H&M

Navy Leigh Jeans: Topshop

Parka: H&M

BIG Leather Bag: All Saints

Socks: Primark

Gloves: Mulberry

Boots: Doc Martens from Office

Nails: It’s Time to Rock by Sephora

So here’s a look from Friday before it snowed, it was still freezing cold so I had piled on the layers for a very casual day at work. I’m still breaking in my Doc Martens, which I do love so much. They are incredibly comfy and supportive at the same time! Wearing them with big snuggly socks makes me happy.

I didn’t realize quite how coordinated I was until I got to work and noticed all the red and maroon but think it somehow worked. I’m seriously obsessed with my new(ish) bag from All Saints, which is so huge I can store everything I could every need in it. I’m a big bag lady and proud!

To everyone who’s had some, I hope you enjoyed the snow. I kind of wish I’d done a snowy OOTD but it was just too cold and I had a massive duvet day instead!

The Versace Countdown

16 Nov

So the Versace for H&M collection is less than 12 hours away… I couldn’t help but notice the guys from H&M putting the final touches in the Regent Street window over the last couple of days:

I couldn’t help but stop and stare, the collection is so striking and luxurious.

My favourite piece from the collection has to be this Leather Necklace (£35) as it’s so unique yet wearable (and affordable!):

There’s the Print Jacket (£69.99) which is calling to the eccentric part of me:

Wow am I loving the hair and make up for this collection… it slightly makes me want to go bleach blonde!

Versace have also taken on the LBD very sucessfully, firstly the babydoll (£79.99) which is H&M-esque:

And the Gold Button Dress (£79.99):

If you just want a hint of Versace you could buy the Print Scarf for a bargainous £24.99:

Last I heard there were 16 people in the queue on Regent Street! I’ll be up at 9am attempting to get on to the website trying to get some of these lovelies.

What pieces from the collection will you be buying?

H&M with a Dragon Tattoo

8 Nov

I’ve pretty much spent my entire life looking for the perfect leather jacket but, alas, never quite found the right one…

I feel all my problems may be solved by H&M’s partnering with the new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film. For those of you who haven’t yet read Stieg Larsson’s Millenium Trilogy prepare to be faced with the most sensational heroine literature has ever seen.

The Gothic Lisbeth Salander dons leather in all shapes and forms, favours big black boots and probably doesn’t own a bra.

I am dying to see this edgy collection and hope it truly reflects Salander’s angst and fearlessness.

Here’s a sneak preview:

Trish Summerville designed the 30 piece collection and said: “Salander’s look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armour to shield her from the world. I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result.”

The collection will hit the Colette store in Paris on November 28th and H&M stores on December 14th… I think I need to get my ticket to Paris sorted!

Twilight

30 Oct

So Halloween is upon us and it’s got a bit spooky…

I’m a bit of a fancy dress fiend and decided to go with a ‘Twilight’ vampire theme, re-styling my Zombie Prom Queen dress from last year:

Lace fingerless gloves – H&M

Black and Gold Ring – Miss Selfridge

Silver Charm Necklace – River Island

Dark Silver Drop Earrings – Warehouse

Nails – Rimmel Lycra Pro in Trend Spotting

This was my face of the night which I used the fabulous VIVO cosmetics to create:

VIVO Lashes in Feather Boa

VIVO Very Berry Lipstick

VIVO Eyeshadows in Purple Passion and Black Sparkle

I also used VIVO Highlighter to create a dewy finish, which I forgot to include in this photo!

You can find VIVO at selected Tesco stores and it’s really quite a bargain with the products ranging from £1.50 to £6.

What are you wearing this Halloween? And have you tried any VIVO products yet?

Flamingo Fever

22 Aug

I just had to do an outfit of the day post featuring my £5 Primark Flamingo dress. The multicoloured flamingos just put such a big smile on my face. I teamed it with a vintage beaded necklace and Primark rings:

And my neon arm party:

I wore hot pink ruffle detail socks with my Topshop heeled Chelsea boots which I’m loving at the moment:

Have you found any awesome bargains lately? The flamingo dress also comes in white with cute blue little hummingbirds on it (I want it!).
