OOTD: Layered Up

3 Dec

So today is a layered up day… it’s got so cold in London town this is a necessity right now! I borrowed my Dad’s cashmere scarf which happens to be tartan (what a trendsetter!) and paired it with some double denim!double denimthai beaded necklacesvintage brown bootsface of the dayTartan Scarf : Dad’s!

How to: Glamour Waves

9 Nov

I was lucky enough to be invited to the multi-award winning Brooks and Brooks salon for a little pampering session this week and thought I’d share the fabulous evening I had with you all with a how to blog post.

The Salon is on the lovely Sicilian Avenue (nearest tube Holborn), which had such beautiful Christmas lights!

I got to choose from a selection of on trend hair looks including vintage undo, sexy blowout, mussy relaxed updo and beachy waves:

I decided to try something a little bit different and chose the “glamour waves” look as I’ve never had anything like that before…. AND I’d never seen a curling tong like this one either….!

Sophia, my technician, and I had lots of giggles about this… and step one was to spray my roots with Batiste for brown hair for a bit of volume and then blow dry to really smooth out the length of my hair:

Then Sophia wrapped my hair around the tongs in sections and pinned it all up to cool (to prevent the curls from dropping)

Then she unpinned all my curls and I had some amazing ringlets!

I quite liked this girly look, but to make it all a bit sophisticated, she brushed the curls out and with her hairdressers magic made it look like this:

Black Velvet Dress (worn as skirt): Primark

Black long sleeve top: ASOS

Studded Tiger Print Cardigan: Topshop

Spike Necklace: Primark

GameBoy iPhone Case:

I told Sophia that I usually curl my hair with my GHD’s and she said if I curled it all in the same direction and then brushed it out, it would create a similar look. Something I’ll definitely be trying out.

There were some seriously cute face cookies with amazing hairdos too!

I had such a fabulous time at Brooks & Brooks that I booked in to get my natural hair colour spiced up! I’m very excited about this, let me know if you have any suggestions about what kind of look you think I should go for.

Where do you get your hair done? What’s your favourite hair trend for Autumn/Winter 2012? I’d love to know,

Event: Night at the Museum

31 Oct

So on Friday night I had the pleasure of attending Lates at Natural History Museum. With no idea what to expect, I took the boyfriend along to see what it was all about. Firstly, we stopped off for dinner at the amazing Crémerie Crêperie which appears to be my favourite South Kensington eatery!

Then we hit the museum which is all ceremoniously lit up (not sure whether this is for Halloween or Christmas?):

Inside the famous Diplodocus Central hall was buzzing – there’s a bar and live music throughout the event:

We had a good old browse around the birds section and saw a whole lot of fossils too! Slightly more dated and a bit creepier was the insect area…. not for the faint hearted! And of course there’s the renowned Dinosaur gallery which really is quite incredible:

These sections of the museum were fairly quiet, but their current exhibition Wildlife Photographer of the Year was totally sold out. I’d definitely recommend it, there are some really impressive photos taken by both professionals and joe average (I’m going to try and enter next year!). Here are just a few of my favourites:

Also in attendance was The Campsite, a pop up creative arts area outside the museum with Campervans, caravans and tents. Here you can watch a Wildlife movie in Lionel the white Campervan or tell a Natural History related story in the Archivist van. (Popping up until November 2nd!).

What I Wore (ever so casual):

Grey Woolly Jumper – H&M

Leather Jacket –  Zara

Jeans – Topshop

Tartan Scarf – Car Boot Sale

Red Bobble Hat – Primark

Maroon Converse (not hi tops!) – Office

Grey Textured Shoulder Bag – All Saints

The next Lates at the Natural History Museum (and last of the series) will be taking place on 30th November. If you are looking for an unusual place to go on a date or after work drinks with colleagues/friends, this is ideal! It’s also open throughout the week for a more traditional museum visit, and my favourite festive ice rink opens there on Friday!

Have you been to any good exhibitions lately? I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to museums and galleries, and love them nearly as much as shopping!

Event: Taste of London

23 Jun

Yesterday evening I went along to the Food Festival: Taste of London. It was my first visit so I had no idea what to expect, however it turned out to be a lot more like a proper festival, including portaloos and mud too! However, as this was all taking place in Regent’s Park rather than a farm in the South West, it was posh portaloos (with toilet paper, soap and hand towels) and carpeted pathways for the ladies in their heels.

The highlight of the evening had to be watching Michel Roux Junior demonstrating how to make croutons along with burning my tongue on some extreme Chilli Chocolate from the South Devon Chilli Farm stand.

With my Crowns (the local currency 2 crowns: £1) I purchased Courgette Flowers from Opera Tavern, Massaman Curry from Suda Thai and Oxcheek and Mash from The Hind’s Head. I also had the most delicious chocolate ice cream ever from Purbeck Ice Cream.

Michel Roux Junior and Chef Chris from Le Gavroche

Thai Junk Food

Pretty Meringues

A bit of drizzle… and a rainbow

And not to forget my OOTD:

Leather Jacket: Zara (Summer 2012)

Speckled Grey Jumper: Urban Outfitters (Summer 2012)

Peach trousers: Zara (Summer 2012)

Watercolour Effect Scarf: Topshop (Summer 2011)

Muddy Black and White Bow Shoes: Dune (Summer 2010)

Leather and Suede Handbag: Zara (Summer 2012)

Other highlights included: a yummy strawberry and clotted cream scone from West Country Cream Teas, beer tasting with Innis and Gunn Brewing Company, getting merry on Rekordelig Wild Berries, munching on Boxerchips and frequent visits to the Lindt stand for unlimited amounts of chocolate. Wow did I eat a lot!

Taste of London is on tonight (5.30pm-9.30pm) and tomorrow (12pm-5pm) and tickets are available to buy on the door at £28 per person, you can also purchase tickets on their website here. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re a foodie like me!

Trendwatch: The Umbrella

24 Apr

Following on from my April showers OOTD, it seems only right to dedicate a post to Umbrellas!

I’ve realised my Primark dark grey brolly just doesn’t make me feel any better about the miserable weather we’re having. However, if I owned the Moschino Cheap and Chic Spots Olivia Umbrella for example… (surely a bargain at seventy five of our Great British Pounds) I’d want any excuse to whip it out!

Or for a cheaper but no less spotty alternative… I could go with the Topshop Clear Spot Frill Umbrella (£15)… what do you think?

Some other brollies I’m absolutely loving….

Fulton Double Canopy Walker Floral Umbrella (£25) – what a lovely surprise on the inside of this quite standard looking black brolly!

Fulton Vintage Butterfly Micro Slim Umbrella (was £18 now £10) – perfect for the handbag and a bargain too!

Cath Kidston Shooting Stars Tiny Umbrella (was £20 now £15) – loving the classic Kidston print

What are your thoughts on the perfect umbrella for these Spring showers? Do you like the prints or the classic black walker? I’d love to know.

19 Apr

White Blouse: Primark

Red Jumper: H&M

Kristen High Waisted Jeans – Topshop

Fur Detail Jacket: Motel

Tillie Bag: Mulberry

Brown Riding Style Boots: Lotus Hallmark

Nails: Rimmel Lycra Pro in 391 Celebrity Bash

What a strange week of weather we’ve had with our April Showers. You look out of the window and it’s a beautiful, bright, sunny morning, thirty minutes later you step outside and pouring with rain! The solution? Stick on a nice big coat, a pair of puddle protecting boots and always carry an umbrella!

What’s your rainy day item of choice?

Chilling in my Docs

5 Feb

Red Bobble Hat: Primark

Check Scarf: TK Maxx

Grey Mixed Knit Jumper: H&M

Navy Leigh Jeans: Topshop

Parka: H&M

BIG Leather Bag: All Saints

Socks: Primark

Gloves: Mulberry

Boots: Doc Martens from Office

Nails: It’s Time to Rock by Sephora

So here’s a look from Friday before it snowed, it was still freezing cold so I had piled on the layers for a very casual day at work. I’m still breaking in my Doc Martens, which I do love so much. They are incredibly comfy and supportive at the same time! Wearing them with big snuggly socks makes me happy.

I didn’t realize quite how coordinated I was until I got to work and noticed all the red and maroon but think it somehow worked. I’m seriously obsessed with my new(ish) bag from All Saints, which is so huge I can store everything I could every need in it. I’m a big bag lady and proud!

To everyone who’s had some, I hope you enjoyed the snow. I kind of wish I’d done a snowy OOTD but it was just too cold and I had a massive duvet day instead!

What a birthday!

17 Jan

So as I mentioned it was my birthday last weekend! I made a real event of it and began with a trip to the Cremerie Creperie in South Kensington along with the boyfriend. It was full of French people, which we thought was a great sign. I had the tuna and sweetcorn crepe. It. was. YUMMY!

Then we headed over to the Victoria and Albert Museum to check out the Postmodernism exhibition which I’ve been wanting to visit since it opened back in September.

Grey Angora Sweater Dress – Topshop

Black Lace Dress (under sweater) – Motel

Brown Coat – Topshop

Teal Faux Fur Snood – Topshop

Grey Leather Bag – All Saints

Black tights and knee high socks – Primark

Black Ankle Boots – Office

I enjoyed the exhibition and found it really interesting, however I wasn’t sure what to feel when I left it. Just quite overwhelmed, it definitely left a lasting impression though! My favourite part was the postmodern tea sets which I found quite fascinating!

We stopped to watch a bit of ice skating at the Natural History Museum, which was a rather beautiful sight! The boyfriend took me skating here for my birthday last year after dark and I’d definitely recommend it.

Then we headed to The Wolseley for afternoon tea (P.O.S.H.) and it was rather scrumptious. We got a selection of  sandwiches, cakes and scones which we actually couldn’t finish! The Wolseley blend was amazing and up there along with my favourite tea in the whole world (Twinings Assam if you must know!).

Later we met with a few friends for dinner and I was given two amazing cakes from The Hummingbird Bakery, red velvet and their standard cupcake. These were literally the best cakes I’ve EVER eaten (and I’ve eaten quite a lot in my time!). I also got given 7 new varnishes, which will no doubt be featuring in upcoming NOTW posts!

My aunt got me the perfect birthday card:

I had a lovely day and felt rather spoiled at the end of it, I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends and family!

A big thanks to everyone who entered my MAC birthday giveaway, the winner will be announced on Thursday.

p.s. you might have learned from this post that I love tea and cake A LOT!

Trendwatch: The Everyday Boot

22 Nov

That time of year has arrived, it’s time to put away the ballet flats and pull out the all weather boot. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks hunting down my perfect pair and seem to have found several alter egos which appear to come across through my four choices:

First there’s the Topshop Abe Ultimate Chelsea Boot (£65), for the casual yet fashionable girl about London town look. They are ever so comfy whilst being timeless and going with pretty much everything in my wardrobe.

How about the Dr Marten Pascal Boot in Shiraz (£90), appealing to my ever more apparent grungy side… how cool would these be with skinny jeans and my H&M parka jacket?

Then there’s sensible Urban Outfitters Tan Fur Lined Boot (£75), the tan colour goes with everything whilst looking a little quirky, and the fluffy interior is perfect for Winter walks (aka shopping sprees).

Lastly the Carvela Smoke Boot at a slightly pricier £180. I never quite got on the biker boot bandwagon and I feel this might be the time? The fur detail makes it apt for winter and the design is exactly what I’m looking for in a hardwearing boot, however I am thinking that perhaps the Biker boot has had it’s day now…

Which do you think I should get? Please leave me a comment and help me decide,
