Launch: Margiela at H&M

20 Nov

Last week I stopped by the launch of Margiela at H&M at their Flagship Store on Regent Street.

It was a rather busy event, and they had a queue outside which formed the night before. Entry to purchase Margiela was via coloured wrist bands distributed in the queue.

Inside the store, the display felt like a museum exhibit, only adding to the limited appeal of these items.

In store my personal favourites included a quirky puff sleeve shirt, black jersey dress and suede jacket, but as I’m saving for a Winter Sun holiday, I stayed controlled and simply admired all these beauties. (May be popping back this week to see if there’s anything left and then using the “it’s meant to be” line to convince myself to purchase!

I’d definitely recommend checking out the website, not only for the flawless design experience but also the comfort of browsing in a calmer demeanor than the average Regent Street shopper!

I also enjoyed the “Who bought What” post on The Guardian Fashion Blog from Launch Day.

What’s your favourite piece from the collection? Have you bought any Margiela goodies?

Event: Night at the Museum

31 Oct

So on Friday night I had the pleasure of attending Lates at Natural History Museum. With no idea what to expect, I took the boyfriend along to see what it was all about. Firstly, we stopped off for dinner at the amazing Crémerie Crêperie which appears to be my favourite South Kensington eatery!

Then we hit the museum which is all ceremoniously lit up (not sure whether this is for Halloween or Christmas?):

Inside the famous Diplodocus Central hall was buzzing – there’s a bar and live music throughout the event:

We had a good old browse around the birds section and saw a whole lot of fossils too! Slightly more dated and a bit creepier was the insect area…. not for the faint hearted! And of course there’s the renowned Dinosaur gallery which really is quite incredible:

These sections of the museum were fairly quiet, but their current exhibition Wildlife Photographer of the Year was totally sold out. I’d definitely recommend it, there are some really impressive photos taken by both professionals and joe average (I’m going to try and enter next year!). Here are just a few of my favourites:

Also in attendance was The Campsite, a pop up creative arts area outside the museum with Campervans, caravans and tents. Here you can watch a Wildlife movie in Lionel the white Campervan or tell a Natural History related story in the Archivist van. (Popping up until November 2nd!).

What I Wore (ever so casual):

Grey Woolly Jumper – H&M

Leather Jacket –  Zara

Jeans – Topshop

Tartan Scarf – Car Boot Sale

Red Bobble Hat – Primark

Maroon Converse (not hi tops!) – Office

Grey Textured Shoulder Bag – All Saints

The next Lates at the Natural History Museum (and last of the series) will be taking place on 30th November. If you are looking for an unusual place to go on a date or after work drinks with colleagues/friends, this is ideal! It’s also open throughout the week for a more traditional museum visit, and my favourite festive ice rink opens there on Friday!

Have you been to any good exhibitions lately? I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to museums and galleries, and love them nearly as much as shopping!

Event: Oxfam’s Rumble in the Jumble

24 Feb

Who doesn’t love a bargain? Out of my wardrobe it’s my charity shop finds that are my favourite; you get to help a good cause whilst giving a fabulous piece of clothing a new home!

So when I heard about Oxfam’s Rumble in the Jumble sale, I was stupidly excited… it’s happening this Sunday (26th February 2012) at St Pancras Old Church, Pancras Road, London NW1 1UL (nearest tube is Kings Cross) from 6pm-9pm, all in aid of Women’s Day.

It will cost you £2 and a bag (big or small) of jumble to attend and it’s supported by several fabulous celebrities including Dawn Porter, Cherry Healey, Sara Cox, Grace Woodward and more!

I’m really gutted as after finding out the date, I realised I’m actually away in Birmingham on Sunday, but I thought I’d encourage all you lovely people to go along and get yourself some gems whilst getting together with some fellow fashion lovers and do gooders. You can find more details on Dawn Porter’s lovely blog here.

Instead I’ll be aiming to put together my own Rumble in the Jumble in aid of Oxfam with friends, bloggers and whoever else would like to join?  Where everyone brings clothes they no longer wear and we have a big swap/sale and raise money for charity. If this is something you’d be interested in… tweet me, leave me a comment or e-mail me at LDNshopaholic@hotmail.co.uk

Would love to hear all about it from anyone who does attend!

Event: Pure Spirit

13 Aug

(Continued from Event: Pure London)

So when I felt I’d seen enough of the main Pure show, I hopped on an awesome Routemaster bus toward Pure Spirit at Earls Court 2:

Pure Spirit had a range of brands aimed at a younger audience than Pure at Olympia so I was in my element and as soon as I walked in I came across, one of my favourite boutique brands, Mina:

Then I came across the amazing And Mary. Gorgeous pieces include an animal charm bracelet, umbrella necklace, owl earrings and mouse necklace:

The bunny ring was so cute along with the teacup earrings and macaroon studs:

I then had the pleasure of meeting designer Georgia Nash who creates beautiful unique clothing and accessories. I love the on trend turbans, along with the pearl headpieces which would be great to wear to a wedding:

The fabulous cardigans at Miss Jolie caught my eye straightaway:

And the cupcake related gifts at Cubic were rather lovable:

I then headed to the Spirit catwalk and here are a few of my favourite looks:

(Neutral detail dress by Glamorous and orange shift by Rinascimento)

My absolute favourite look of the day was by Yumi with this fairlisle inspired outfit (although it doesn’t look very Spring/Summer to me!):

Halfway through the fashion show, we were entertained by up and coming band The Scarletz:

They were dressed in Vero Moda, Only and Vila and I was actually rather pleasantly surprised by their superb vocals and on stage chemistry.

Finally we saw Forever Unique‘s new collection and I LOVED it, however I’m not sure how wearable it actually is:

I had really enjoyable day at Pure London and discovered so many brands/companies that I’d never previously encountered, so thanks Pure!

I’d really recommend visiting the event which next runs 12-14 February 2012. Not only do you get to meet the people behind the labels but also get to see catwalk shows and be talked through trend predictions by real experts.

See you there in Feb!

The Only Way Is Blogging

21 Jul

On Saturday I went along to the first TOWIB (The Only Way is Blogging) event with the lovely Lauren from Beauty Notes. Event organiser, London Beauty Queen, did a really good job of sorting out the plan for the day and the schedule ran from 12-5. As soon as we entered the venue, we were invited to take a look at MUA’s new professional collection (product review blog post and vlog still to come). We were very impressed with the range, particularly the eyeshadow palettes which are a bargain just £4.

We then mingled and had a good old chat about all things blogging and beauty, it was really lovely to meet so many like-minded people. We were then talked through the collection and shown three make up looks. Firstly, Sabrina from A Little Obsessed (wearing a fab skirt may I add!) was given a strong lip and neutral eye by make up artist Katie Hughes:

Whilst Sophie from Sophie is Make Up had a lovely smokey eye look (photo courtesy of Super Gorgeous):

And finally, Natalie from Blush Blend Beauty was given a bright eye look (photo courtesy of Super Gorgeous):

Lauren and I then proceeded to munch on some rather yummy potato skins, soon after which we were given a science and technology lesson in all things Dove (photo courtesy of Super Gorgeous):

There’ll be Dove product review vlog coming later on today, where I’ll be telling you about the Dove products I’m loving and one that I’m definitely NOT loving!

We were then lucky enough to have a Q&A session with British Beauty Blogger, Really Ree and London Beauty Queen (L-R):

It was great to hear them talk from their own experiences, knowing that they started out just like us. It’s really amazing how in a few short years blogging can really change people’s lives/careers. Jane (British Beauty Blogger) now has 100,000 hits a month, Ree (Really Ree) is Hello Magazine’s official blogger writing ‘Attempts at a Stylish Life’ and Hayley (London Beauty Queen) has forged herself a career bringing brands and bloggers together.

Ree then told us about her favourite new tanning product ‘Lauren’s Way’ endorsed by none other than Lauren Goodger from The Only Way is Essex! I can’t wait to try it out, and the review will follow soon after so keep an eye out.

It was such a fabulous event, and I met so many lovely bloggers. Hopefully we’ll all see each other again at the next TOWIB event on 15 October (do come along if you’re a fellow blogger). I’d like to say a HUGE thanks to London Beauty Queen for organising it.
